Hearing for Ovidio Guzmán in Chicago Court

Ovidio “El Ratón” Guzmán López, one of the leaders of the criminal cell “Los Chapitos” of the Sinaloa Cartel, will face a new hearing in the Federal Court of Chicago on October 21. His legal situation is a matter of speculation, as it is suggested that he is negotiating with U.S. authorities. Meanwhile, his brother Joaquín “El Güero” Guzmán López faces an uncertain future.

According to journalist Ariel Moutsatsos, Ovidio will participate in a status hearing to evaluate the progress of his case. During the session, documents and evidence will be discussed that could determine whether there will be a trial against him or if some kind of agreement will be reached. In July of this year, Ovidio was temporarily transferred out of the Chicago jail and returned to prison on October 17, which has sparked rumors about possible negotiations.

The situation of Joaquín Guzmán López, who was arrested along with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, one of the main leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, adds another element of uncertainty. Although Joaquín was released on October 16, one day before Ovidio was taken back to prison, the reasons for his release have not been clarified. This has led to speculation about a possible agreement between the sons of “El Chapo” and the U.S. government.

Unofficial sources suggest that Ovidio and Joaquín may be in the process of negotiating with U.S. authorities. It is speculated that “El Chapo’s” sons may plead guilty and cooperate with the government in exchange for a reduced sentence or even inclusion in the witness protection program.
